• Take charge of the technical strategy for essential components of the Chainguard Repository, including user-facing registries, APIs, and serving systems that facilitate the secure and reliable consumption of Chainguard artifacts.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-availability backend services in Go that support libraries today and help establish the groundwork for containers, images, and APK repositories in the future.
• Lead efforts on scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing for production systems that directly impact customers.
• Influence technical choices regarding repository architecture, service boundaries, and the operational practices necessary for managing artifact-serving infrastructure at scale.
• Collaborate closely with engineers in Libraries, Build Platform, Delivery, Product, and Security to create a unified repository experience and enable support for additional artifact types over time.
• Guide other engineers, elevate the standards for design and code reviews, and serve as a force multiplier in a dynamic team where staff engineers are expected to take ownership of significant deliverables and help shape team processes.
• Over 8 years of experience in building and managing production backend or infrastructure systems, demonstrating clear staff-level ownership and technical leadership.
• Proficient in Go, or possess extensive backend systems experience with the capability to quickly adapt to Go.
• Background in constructing or managing customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, developer platforms, or other high-scale serving systems.
• Experience in deploying and managing services in production, with sound judgment regarding reliability, observability, performance, and operational trade-offs.
• Comfortable working across both application and infrastructure layers, including service development, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
• Strong systems instincts and curiosity: proactively identifying issues, resolving them, and enhancing the platform before they become bottlenecks for customers or internal teams.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities, particularly in a remote setting where staff engineers are expected to foster alignment across teams and transform ambiguity into progress.
• Flexible & Remote-First Culture: Enjoy remote work with team meetup opportunities, bi-annual destination summits, and a monthly stipend for coworking spaces, phone, and internet expenses.

• 100% Covered Health Insurance: We cover all your health, vision, and dental insurance premiums for you and your dependents—nothing is deducted from your paycheck.
• ∞ Flexible Time Off: Take the time you need; to perform at your best, we recognize the importance of recharging and resetting.
