Staff Software Engineer, Rapid Innovation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Quickly design and develop functional software for innovative product ideas, technical experiments, and strategic initiatives.

• Transform loosely defined concepts into functional implementations with minimal product or technical specifications.

• Establish the architecture and technical roadmap for early-stage projects while making practical trade-offs regarding speed, security, and scalability.

• Work across a variety of technologies, including backend, frontend, desktop, platform, integration, and infrastructure, based on project requirements.

• Create backend services and APIs utilizing Java and other relevant technologies.

• Develop contemporary user experiences employing JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and related technologies.

• Assess unfamiliar technologies, frameworks, APIs, and codebases, quickly becoming productive.

• Integrate AI models, APIs, and emerging AI functionalities into software as needed, collaborating with Keeper’s AI and Machine Learning teams.

• Recognize technical risks, confirm feasibility, and decide if concepts are ready for productization.

• Generate technical structure, documentation, and architectural guidance to facilitate a smooth transition to long-term engineering owners.

• Mentor engineers and elevate technical standards through design reviews, technical advice, and hands-on collaboration.

• Work directly with the CTO, Engineering leaders, Product teams, and subject-matter experts.

• Extensively utilize AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and GitHub Copilot for research, coding, debugging, testing, and technical exploration.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 9 years of professional software engineering experience with a broad range across various software development areas.

• Strong foundation in software engineering and the capability to design and build comprehensive applications, services, and integrations.

• Proven experience leading technical architecture and execution for complex software projects.

• Capability to independently transform ambiguous ideas into functional implementations.

• Extensive backend development experience, ideally with Java and modern service-oriented architectures.

• Experience in developing frontend applications using JavaScript or TypeScript along with React or comparable frameworks.

• Proven experience in designing and integrating APIs, backend services, databases, and third-party technologies.

• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities across unfamiliar systems and codebases.

• Quick learner of new programming languages, frameworks, and technical domains.

• Ability to make technical trade-offs when speed and experimentation take precedence over long-term production architecture.

• A history of technical curiosity and experimentation with or development of new technologies.

• Ability to influence technical direction and mentor engineers without formal management authority.

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools for software engineering, research, debugging, and prototyping.

• Proficient in communicating technical findings, architectural decisions, and handoff requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
