
Staff Software Engineer, Payments – AirCover Insurance Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the design and development of essential subsystems that manage policies, coverage, enrollment, regional rules, and experimental capabilities for the AirCover Insurance Platform.
• Create architectural plans for the future to extend AirCover into new regions and product offerings.
• Spearhead the creation of an experimentation framework for insurance offers, pricing, and positioning.
• Guide engineers from various teams in developing solutions and take ownership of substantial technical responsibilities.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, and legal teams to define requirements and direct engineering efforts.
• Enhance technical quality via design, code evaluations, and production operations.
• Mentor engineers and promote teamwork across different teams.
• Utilize emerging technologies, such as LLMs, to enhance automation and improve both host and guest experiences.
• Produce and assess designs and code for high-availability distributed backend services.
• Make architectural decisions and scale services within a regulated, multi-region context.
• Examine data to uncover conversion and coverage gaps and leverage insights for product and platform enhancements.
• Deliver technical and product deep-dive presentations to stakeholders and leadership.
• A minimum of 9 years of relevant software development experience in a dynamic technology environment, or 7 years with an advanced degree.
• Strong expertise in backend systems within large-scale, service-oriented architectures.
• Practical experience with at least one of the following: Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or similar languages.
• Background in designing multi-region or multi-tenant platforms with configurable, rules-driven behaviors.
• Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation frameworks.
• Experience leveraging data to enhance conversion or attachment rates.
• Proficient in designing and managing high-performance systems with dependable monitoring and logging.
• Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
• Experience in insurance, payments, fintech, or other regulated sectors is advantageous.
• Proven hands-on technical leadership across multiple teams.
• Exceptional communication skills adaptable to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
