Staff Software Engineer – Orders Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Serve as an architect within the Orders Platform team, establishing the technical direction for order modeling, storage, replication, and reconciliation.

• Design and create event-sourced and replicated-state systems that are resilient to retries, network partitions, concurrent edits, and partial failures.

• Collaborate with Product, Payments, Reporting, point-of-sale, and mobile engineering teams to deliver dependable ordering flows from end to end.

• Evaluate designs and code, mentor engineers, and enhance team proficiency in distributed-systems patterns.

• Enhance observability, replay, and recovery processes to swiftly identify and address order-state issues while minimizing costs.

• Mitigate bus-factor risks by sharing context and documenting the platform effectively.

• Take ownership of and develop the core Orders Platform that reliably processes, tracks, and settles restaurant orders, even during internet outages.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience with event sourcing, CRDTs, or similar methodologies for replicated and offline-first data.

• Proficient in idempotency, optimistic concurrency, event replay, projections, and reconciliation.

• Ability to reason about node failures during operations and design systems to handle partial failures.

• Quick learner of specialized technologies, with a focus on enhancing their robustness.

• Staff-level experience leading technical initiatives while maintaining hands-on coding involvement.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in developing correctness-critical distributed systems.

• Preferred background in backend payment or ordering systems.

• Capability to collaborate with payments and reporting teams while managing the order aspects of money-moving processes.

• Willingness to engage directly with restaurants, including in-person visits and phone/text communication.

• Background in restaurants, retail, or IT is ideal but not mandatory.

• Must be currently and permanently residing in the United States or Canada.

• Must clarify visa sponsorship status.
