Staff Software Engineer – On-Prem

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Develop AI-first solutions as the primary methodology for addressing engineering challenges.

• Take charge of the platform strategy regarding tools, testing infrastructure, and release automation utilized for deploying services into CircleCI Server.

• Enhance and streamline the installation process for CircleCI Server.

• Facilitate safer upgrades and simplify day-to-day operations through practical defaults.

• Oversee the Kubernetes infrastructure foundational to CircleCI Server, along with its associated tooling and infrastructure.

• Implement standardized observability practices using OpenTelemetry.

• Create diagnostic tools that assist operators and support engineers in swiftly identifying root causes.

• Collaborate with Support, Customer Engineering, and clients to pinpoint recurring issues and address them at their origin.

• Work alongside Product and Engineering Management to convert business objectives into technical strategies.

• Make architectural and technical trade-off decisions that align with business requirements.

• Guide and mentor engineers, enhancing technical quality through reviews and design discussions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in developing production backend and infrastructure systems.

• Strong expertise in Go programming language.

• Familiarity with API design, data modeling, distributed systems, and operational tools.

• Extensive experience in designing, deploying, and troubleshooting production systems on Kubernetes.

• In-depth knowledge of Helm.

• Experience with customer-operated environments, including air-gapped and restricted network setups.

• Proficient in creating internal platforms, tools, frameworks, and systems.

• Regular use of AI tools and the ability to articulate their applications and limitations.

• Experience in making architectural decisions that affect multiple systems and teams.

• Ability to document technical rationale and evaluate business trade-offs.

• Proven technical leadership and mentoring capabilities.

• Experience in delivering on-premises or self-hosted software solutions.

• Knowledge of enterprise on-premises, self-hosted SaaS, or customer-installed distributed systems.
