Staff Software Engineer, Native Mobile

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the development of Coinbase’s new native mobile application from the ground up.

• Take charge of the complete architecture and delivery processes for core native application components using Swift and Kotlin.

• Create a structured architecture and compile-time boundaries that uphold rigorous quality standards.

• Lead the workflow for translating code and establish automated migration systems.

• Determine which translation tasks should be automated and which should be performed by humans.

• Enhance build speeds, local development processes, CI/CD reliability, architectural patterns, and documentation.

• Influence the dual-app agentic synchronization strategy throughout the transition period.

• Design daily automation for agents and human review procedures to maintain synchronization between native and React Native codebases.

• Establish mobile engineering best practices throughout Coinbase.

• Provide mentorship to L3-L5 mobile engineers across various teams.

• Cultivate connections and offer support among mobile engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years experience in iOS or Android mobile software engineering.

• Proficient in both Swift/iOS and Kotlin/Android, with a commitment to developing cross-platform capabilities.

• Proven history of delivering high-quality mobile applications at scale.

• Responsibility for architectural decisions, performance budgets, and the quality of releases.

• Comprehensive knowledge of mobile performance optimization, including aspects like cold start times, frame stability, scroll jank, and time to interaction.

• Experience in profiling and tuning performance across various device tiers, including lower-end Android devices.

• Capability to translate organizational objectives into technical execution at the team level.

• Skill in fostering alignment among cross-team and cross-functional collaborators.

• Background in AI-assisted code generation or LLM-driven development workflows.

• Insight into what tasks should be automated versus those that need human oversight.

• Experience in enhancing developer experience through build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and release tools.

• Responsible utilization of generative AI with appropriate human oversight.
