Staff Software Engineer, Maps Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define the technical vision for the Maps teams.

• Develop geospatial systems and integrations that support essential features across Samsara products.

• Enhance storage, query, and computational capabilities for real-time functionalities.

• Integrate team-specific geospatial solutions into scalable offerings that benefit the entire platform.

• Create agentic solutions that empower customers to independently access desired data views.

• Elevate the technical standards through code reviews, design conversations, and mentorship.

• Collaborate with engineering leadership on strategic initiatives and decisions.

• Represent Samsara in the broader community through presentations, open-source contributions, and engagement with the mapping/geospatial community.

• Work with both internal and external customers to refine and develop software platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of software development experience.

• At least 2 years in a role focused on architecture or technical leadership.

• Strong foundation in programming and design principles.

• More than 4 years of experience working with large-scale distributed systems.

• At least 4 years of leading technical projects across various teams.

• Proficiency with GIS technologies and spatial analysis, including PostGIS, spatial SQL, GeoPandas/Shapely, QGIS, and geospatial data validation.

• Knowledge of geospatial data formats and open mapping ecosystems, such as GeoParquet, OpenStreetMap (OSM), and OSM PBF.

• Experience in ingesting, transforming, validating, or serving geospatial datasets.

• Legal authorization to work for the company and in the specified location.
