Staff Software Engineer, Fullstack – Card Experiences

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish a technical strategy for the team over a one-year horizon.

• Link the technical strategy to essential projects that have a significant business impact.

• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the entire product development process.

• Ensure that technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are recognized and effectively managed.

• Define and promote technical solutions as well as operational processes.

• Oversee team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting.

• Encourage quality and ownership through code reviews and design standards.

• Promote engineering standards through documentation and technical presentations.

• Nurture team talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

• Construct full-stack cardholder experiences and backend services for Affirm’s card product.

• Take ownership of features from conception to production launch and ongoing monitoring.

• Leverage AI to enhance development quality and customer experiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.

• Extensive experience in building highly available distributed systems.

• Familiarity with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.

• More than 8 years of experience as a software engineer.

• Proficient in developing web applications using declarative UI frameworks like React Native, React, or Vue.

• Expertise in designing, developing, and launching systems at scale.

• Experience in delivering significant features, system components, or retiring existing functionalities through technical and execution strategies.

• Capability to write high-quality, comprehensible code.

• Ability to navigate from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture.

• AI-first mindset and readiness to adopt current technologies.

• Proven track record of gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
