Staff Software Engineer – Front End/Back End

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership in the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of intricate back-end applications and services.

• Strategize and implement technical roadmaps for both new and existing projects with minimal oversight.

• Facilitate technical discussions and contribute to architecture, system design, API design, and technology selection decisions.

• Create and assess scalable, maintainable, secure, and reliable technical solutions.

• Design, develop, and sustain REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.

• Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and cross-functional teams to convert product and business requirements into technical solutions.

• Engage in planning sessions and technical discussions with clients, partners, and stakeholders.

• Deconstruct complex or unclear technical challenges and provide definitive technical guidance.

• Mitigate technical ambiguity and debt through documentation, refactoring, automated testing, and enhancements to engineering practices.

• Establish and advocate for engineering standards concerning code quality, testing, maintainability, security, performance, and reliability.

• Conduct code reviews and deliver technical guidance and actionable feedback to engineers.

• Mentor engineers through coaching, knowledge sharing, and providing technical leadership.

• Identify technical risks and dependencies, recommending appropriate mitigations.

• Communicate effectively about systems, architectural choices, constraints, and project history during demonstrations, proposals, and client interactions.

• Present technical concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Participate in technical interviews and evaluations of engineering candidates.

• Occasionally travel to collaborate with and present to clients, partners, and stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree along with 9+ years of experience in software engineering.

• Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of educational qualifications.

• Expert-level proficiency in back-end software engineering.

• Proven experience providing technical leadership on complex software development projects.

• Extensive experience in developing production applications and services utilizing Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience in designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs and microservices.

• Experience in creating and implementing scalable, maintainable, and reliable software solutions.

• Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to fellow engineers.

• Preferred: experience in developing applications, services, or automation with Python.

• Preferred: familiarity with PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch.

• Preferred: experience in designing and supporting event-driven architectures.

• Preferred: experience in developing and deploying applications on AWS.

• Preferred: knowledge of AWS services, including ECS and Lambda.

• Preferred: experience with Docker.

• Preferred: experience with Terraform.

• Preferred: proficiency in GitLab, including source control and CI/CD pipelines.

• Preferred: experience with Maven and POM management.

• Preferred: experience managing Python dependencies using Poetry.

• Preferred: familiarity with automated testing, code reviews, debugging, and contemporary software engineering practices.

• Preferred: experience in designing or supporting distributed systems and microservices architectures.

• Preferred: experience with application security, observability, performance optimization, and troubleshooting in production environments.

• Preferred: experience delivering software within federal government or public-sector contexts.

• Preferred: experience assisting in technical solutioning, technical demonstrations, or client-facing engineering discussions.
