Staff Software Engineer, Defensive Agent

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Guide the technical efforts for NodeZero's defensive agents that convert established attack paths into ongoing actionable remediation.

• Establish technical direction in collaboration with AI researchers and lead platform engineers.

• Take ownership of the technical strategy for autonomous remediation as a fundamental capability of NodeZero's product.

• Write production-quality code on a weekly basis and conduct pull request reviews.

• Collaborate with the Product team to prioritize challenges and outline technical roadmaps.

• Manage the comprehensive technical vision from initial design through to shipping, iteration, and eventual deprecation.

• Define technical standards through design evaluations, code quality assessments, and operational discipline.

• Mentor engineers and create frameworks and architecture that promote high-quality work.

• Identify risks and trade-offs early, holding the team accountable for results.

• Integrate AI research with platform engineering while considering platform limitations.

• Decide on build-versus-buy-versus-integrate strategies for model providers, orchestration frameworks, and control-plane integrations.

• Design resilient execution for long-running, resumable agent processes.

• Create tools and authorization layers that enforce tenant scope and permissions.

• Oversee multi-tenant isolation for agents performing write actions.

• Architect connector frameworks for diverse third-party security control APIs.

• Safeguard against prompt injection and ensure model outputs do not authorize privileged actions.

• Develop observability features that clarify agent behavior.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience utilizing modern object-oriented or functional programming languages.

• Proven experience in building applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Extensive experience with agentic or LLM-backed systems in a production setting.

• Expert-level proficiency in SQL.

• Background in designing and managing distributed systems in production, including asynchronous workflows, queues, retries, idempotency, and handling partial failures.

• Demonstrated history of shipping and maintaining production services, including on-call responsibilities.

• Experience with durable execution or workflow engines, such as Temporal, or equivalent checkpointing mechanisms.

• Knowledge in creating multi-tenant platforms with stringent isolation requirements, workload identity, and short-lived credential brokering.

• Experience in integrating third-party APIs behind a normalized abstraction.

• Familiarity with EDR, firewalls, SIEM, and cloud IAM security control planes and APIs.

• Experience with PostgreSQL and Neo4j database architectures.

• Experience in building GraphQL backends.
