Staff Software Engineer – Core Edge Processing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and assess production code within Marqeta's routing and processing framework.

• Lead projects aimed at enhancing platform reliability, speed, and cost-effectiveness.

• Collaborate with the engineering manager and other engineers to shape system architecture.

• Create modifications to data models, devise strategies for failure and degradation, and implement blast-radius containment measures.

• Work on intricate, mission-critical codebases.

• Elevate engineering standards throughout the team.

• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance at the Staff level.

• Maintain systems that facilitate the routing and authorization of transactions across card networks and the associated cryptographic infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of engineering experience.

• Extensive knowledge of Java.

• Solid understanding of concurrency and performance principles.

• Proven experience in constructing reliable systems at scale.

• Capability to draft system designs, advocate for them during reviews, and manage systems in a production environment.

• Experience in regulated, cloud-native, high-availability settings.

• Background in payment processing, card issuing, or network integration, such as JPOS or ISO 8583.

• Familiarity with cryptography or key management is beneficial, including experience with HSM, AWS Payment Cryptography, or KMS.

• Experience managing systems across multiple regions, including tested failover, is advantageous.

• Practical experience with Kubernetes and AWS is a plus.
