This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
β’ Take full ownership of various medium-to-large connectivity features or service components, overseeing everything from problem identification to design, implementation, validation, release readiness, and operational transition.
β’ Establish reviewable milestones, acceptance criteria, dependencies, estimates, and risks associated with complex customer, product, and engineering objectives.
β’ Create technical designs and architectural diagrams, elucidate trade-offs, and make informed decisions regarding features and services across drivers, protocols, client libraries, connectors, and distributed systems.
β’ Conduct root-cause analysis across client/server, protocol, network, authentication, metadata, and distributed-system boundaries utilizing logs, telemetry, profiles, benchmarks, and production data.
β’ Ensure API and protocol stability while developing automated coverage for compatibility, interoperability, performance, scalability, reliability, observability, and diagnostics.
β’ Outline feasible migration strategies for supported and legacy clients.
β’ Collaborate with Product, Query Execution, QA, Support, SRE, Documentation, and external technology partners.
β’ Enhance certification, customer experience, and supportability.
β’ Engage in code and design reviews, mentor and guide engineers, refine team practices, and contribute to pertinent upstream open-source projects.
β’ Utilize Dremio-approved AI tools responsibly, safeguarding proprietary and customer data while validating outcomes through review and testing.
β’ A minimum of 8 years of production software engineering experience, or equivalent expertise demonstrated through sustained ownership of complex systems and significant team-area features.
β’ In-depth proficiency in Java, C++, Rust, Go, or another systems or services programming language.
β’ Capability to work efficiently with adjacent languages and frameworks.
β’ Experience in designing and troubleshooting APIs, protocols, client libraries, drivers, or distributed services.
β’ Strong understanding of data structures, concurrency, asynchronous programming, networking, and failure management.
β’ Ability to identify and resolve non-obvious issues across client/server and distributed-system boundaries.
β’ Experience in developing unit, integration, compatibility, performance, or reliability tests.
β’ Familiarity with production CI/CD, packaging, release, certification, and engineering quality controls.
β’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate technical trade-offs, highlight risks, align contributors, and influence without formal authority.
β’ Proven track record of mentoring and coaching engineers and enhancing team engineering practices.
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
β’ Advanced degrees and comparable industry experience are encouraged.
β’ Bonus: experience with JDBC, ODBC, ADBC, Apache Arrow, Arrow Flight SQL, SQL engines, databases, data platforms, source connectors, BI interoperability, OAuth, OIDC, TLS, enterprise authentication, metadata discovery, query pushdown, native builds, packaging, release engineering, compatibility certification, observability, production diagnostics, customer escalation, long-running data transfer, cancellation, keepalive, timeout, proxy systems, or relevant open-source projects.
