Staff Software Engineer, Compute Platform – Routing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the design, development, and automation of routing infrastructure that directs application traffic to Kubernetes backends at scale.

• Develop capabilities on Envoy-based reverse proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh, and SPIFFE service authentication.

• Propel quantifiable enhancements to the latency, reliability, and performance of application routing systems within Coinbase's production environment.

• Influence the developer experience for operating applications at Coinbase, focusing on AI-driven tools, processes, and support.

• Collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to ensure that the routing infrastructure aligns with cross-functional platform requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering and infrastructure roles.

• More than 5 years of practical engineering experience with application routing technologies, such as reverse proxies, ingress controllers, CDN/WAF, and service mesh.

• Expertise in one or more systems programming languages (Go, Python, or Java) with a background in building and deploying production-grade infrastructure services.

• Proven experience in scaling backend infrastructure on AWS, alongside knowledge of networking, compute, and container orchestration services.

• Extensive familiarity with the CNCF ecosystem (Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio) and a demonstrated ability to extend or contribute to these technologies in a production setting.

• A history of diagnosing intricate issues in distributed systems, pinpointing root causes, and independently driving resolutions.

• Responsible application of generative AI with human oversight, including leveraging AI tools in infrastructure workflows to enhance efficiency, reliability, or developer velocity.
