Staff Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +15 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and manage essential cloud infrastructure platforms that support Airbnb services.

• Deliver developer APIs and CLIs, Kubernetes infrastructure, tools for autoscaling and capacity management, along with automation for cloud infrastructure.

• Construct innovative cloud-native infrastructure utilizing public cloud technologies.

• Provide secure, efficient, mature, and highly available frameworks and platforms that reduce infrastructure complexity.

• Enhance and optimize existing systems and services to boost performance and operational efficiency.

• Increase system availability by applying best practices for distributed systems.

• Partner with infrastructure engineers to lay the groundwork for Airbnb’s technological advancement.

• Collaborate with the open-source community and peer organizations to tackle cloud-native engineering challenges at scale.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of industry experience with a BS/Masters, or 2+ years with a PhD, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• A proven history of developing and managing large-scale technical projects in partnership with seasoned engineers.

• Deep knowledge of public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their Infrastructure as a Service offerings, such as EC2.

• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.

• Full-cycle developer mindset with a strong sense of ownership and experience in building and operating large-scale, distributed systems throughout the software life cycle.

• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within and across engineering teams.

• Strong problem-solving capabilities and solid skills in production debugging.

• Passionate about efficiency, availability, reliability, and the overall quality of systems.

• Demonstrated experience operating Kubernetes at scale.
