Staff Software Engineer – Builder Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the strategy, architecture, and functionality of the Agent Platform for the deployment, operation, evaluation, governance, and enhancement of agents and agentic workflows.

• Design AI Infrastructure that includes LLM and MCP gateways, incorporating guardrails, fallback mechanisms, usage and cost controls, and model rollout policies.

• Create, develop, and manage agents and workflows tailored for engineering and business tasks.

• Guide the development and enhancement of Developer Infrastructure, including Source Control, CI, and developer tools.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Sales, and G&A stakeholders to discover high-impact AI opportunities.

• Establish best practices, enablement resources, and streamlined processes for agents and agentic tooling.

• Set up measurement and feedback systems for usage, reliability, cost, and productivity metrics.

• Translate insights from customer-zero into requirements for Temporal Cloud, SDKs, and the Agent Harness.

• Foster contributions to an open-source reference architecture.

• Mentor and provide support to engineers.

• Engage in the on-call rotation while enhancing operational efficiency and user experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Solid fundamentals in software engineering.

• Proven experience in leading the design, delivery, and operation of production-quality internal platforms or developer tools.

• Familiarity with modern agentic coding tools such as Codex and Claude Code.

• Proficiency in Go, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or Java.

• Experience in architecting and scaling workflow automation or internal tools.

• Ability to make pragmatic, high-impact technical decisions.

• Strong judgment concerning standardization, flexibility, reliability, security, and maintainability.

• Background in leading cross-functional collaboration.

• Capability to define success metrics, prioritize effectively, and evaluate impact using data and qualitative insights.

• Excellent written communication and documentation skills.

• Experience in building internal agents and managing an agent platform (preferred).

• Experience in developing and operating Temporal applications (preferred).
