Staff Software Engineer, Backend – Identity Decisioning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop a technical strategy for the team over a one-year horizon.

• Link the technical strategy to key projects that affect business outcomes.

• Work in collaboration with product management, design, and analytics during the product development process.

• Define and promote technical solutions along with operational procedures.

• Oversee team operations and availability, which includes monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call efforts.

• Establish standards for code review and design.

• Advocate for engineering best practices through writing and technical presentations.

• Foster team growth through constructive feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.

• Design and maintain identity systems that support KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decision-making for global markets.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems.

• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.

• Extensive background in developing highly available distributed systems.

• Familiarity with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in delivering significant features, system components, or phasing out existing functionalities through technical and execution strategies.

• Capability to produce high-quality, maintainable code.

• Comfort with both low-level programming idioms and large-system architecture.

• Proven ability to collect and iterate based on feedback.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

• Must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
