Staff Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Develop a technical strategy for the team with a long-term outlook, aligning it with significant, business-relevant projects.

• Oversee software engineering for all EU card initiatives.

• Work closely with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development process.

• Define and champion technical solutions and operational methodologies.

• Manage team operations and availability, which includes monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call responsibilities.

• Set standards for code reviews and design, and promote these standards through writing and tech presentations.

• Foster team development through constructive feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.

• Engage in a mandatory on-call rotation.

• Design, develop, and implement backend systems for cards, focusing on transaction processing, ledgering, and reconciliation systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience as a software engineer.

• Expertise in designing, developing, and deploying backend systems at scale using technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

• Proficiency in developing front-end applications.

• Experience in delivering significant features or system components, or phasing out existing functionalities, through detailed technical and execution plans.

• Capacity to write high-quality, comprehensible, and reusable code.

• Ability to navigate from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture.

• Proven track record of growth and impact by gathering and refining feedback from engineering and cross-functional teams.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.

• Must reside in Spain.

• Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
