This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define the technical direction and architectural strategy for Passport cloud services spanning multiple subsystems and workflows.
• Spearhead intricate, ambiguous initiatives over multiple quarters, from problem identification and design to implementation, rollout, and operational execution.
• Set technical standards and reusable cloud-native patterns across AWS and GCP.
• Evaluate and articulate trade-offs related to reliability, scalability, latency, security, cost, and time-to-market.
• Recognize systemic risks and architectural deficiencies and drive their mitigation.
• Collaborate with software engineering, test engineering, research, and product teams on roadmaps and capabilities.
• Conduct technical reviews and ensure stakeholder alignment on design choices, migration strategies, and ownership delineation.
• Engage in critical-system incident responses and enhance alerting, runbooks, deployment quality, service ownership, and observability.
• Guide engineers through code reviews, providing technical direction and hands-on collaboration.
• Take part in the team's on-call rotation, including responding to after-hours alerts.
• Over 8 years of professional software development experience in building backend services and APIs, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven Staff-level influence in leading significant technical initiatives across various services or domains, delivering measurable results.
• Strong practical experience with Go, Python, or similar programming languages.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and development in Linux environments.
• Extensive experience in designing and managing cloud-native systems within AWS or GCP, including services like S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and IAM.
• Proven track record of ownership over highly available systems, covering deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and operational enhancements.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in defining or influencing technical standards, architecture, or roadmaps across team boundaries.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including documenting decisions and fostering stakeholder alignment.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with Redis, MySQL, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, authentication, identity management, fraud prevention, security-sensitive environments, observability, large-scale migrations, reliability programs, cost and capacity optimization, internal platforms, developer tooling, reusable engineering patterns, and UI or related product experiences.
