Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +5 more locations.

📋 Description

• Offer technical guidance and vision as an active technical contributor.

• Design architecture and provide mentorship to engineers.

• Collaborate across control plane systems and impact cross-team roadmaps.

• Introduce practical engineering practices to infrastructure software development, testing, and operations.

• Engage in an on-call rotation.

• Design and implement scalable, secure Kubernetes-based infrastructure for multi-cloud and hybrid environments.

• Lead the technical direction for Fleet initiatives, encompassing control plane services, tenancy models, deployment pipelines, and observability layers.

• Mentor engineers while promoting a culture of ownership, curiosity, and excellence.

• Propel modernization through GitOps, Policy-as-Code, Cilium networking, autoscaling, and resource-efficiency methodologies.

• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Application teams.

• Advocate for best practices in CI/CD, reliability, container lifecycle management, and developer experience.

• Provide counsel to engineering leadership and contribute to shaping Fleet’s company-wide scale and impact.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7-10+ years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 5+ years in infrastructure, platform, or backend systems roles.

• Strong expertise in modern programming languages such as Python or Go.

• Experience in developing production-quality, reliable, and observable systems utilized across engineering organizations.

• Proven capability to design and construct systems from the ground up, making practical trade-offs.

• Extensive knowledge of Kubernetes internals and operations, including networking, scheduling, scaling, and controller patterns.

• Experience operating across multiple cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and/or hybrid environments.

• Strong familiarity with Helm, container orchestration patterns, and CI/CD automation.

• Proficient in working with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Pulumi) and GitOps workflows.

• Ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority and align diverse groups around technical decisions.

• Knowledge of Cilium, Kyverno, KEDA, Gateway API, OPA, or similar technologies.

• Experience in building and managing multi-tenant SaaS platforms.

• Exposure to on-premises delivery models or regulated environments.

• Experience in performance tuning for large-scale data or compute workloads.

• A history of successfully driving infrastructure transformation or breaking down legacy systems.

• Experience working with GPU infrastructure for training and inference.
