Staff Software Developer, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Act as a key contributor to the platform, significantly influencing customer and partner value on a global scale.

• Take ownership of essential features and architectural enhancements from initial design to final build.

• Collaborate with technically proficient teams to exchange ideas.

• Tackle complex, business-critical issues such as third-party extensibility and real-time multi-user synchronization.

• Define and refine the technical architecture and standards to ensure safe, scalable, and reusable capabilities.

• Serve as a technical leader through design reviews, requests for comments (RFCs), and collaborative work.

• Lead proof-of-concept initiatives that inform roadmap and architectural decisions.

• Collaborate with QA, Product, Security, and Domain Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on observability, reliability, and system quality.

• Establish engineering standards and best practices to ensure consistency, security, and maintainability.

• Identify systemic risks and eliminate root causes that affect reliability, performance, or costs.

• Partner with DevOps and Security teams to develop CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and production safeguards.

• Mentor both senior and junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance.

• Participate in production support as a senior escalation point, lead root cause analyses, and drive preventative enhancements.

• Advocate for responsible AI-assisted development across teams.

• Establish standards and guidelines for AI-assisted and agentic tooling throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

• Evaluate and pilot AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.

• Mentor engineers on advanced practices in AI-assisted development.

• Manage feedback loops and metrics that assess the impact of AI-assisted development on velocity and quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with server-side Java, recognized as a subject matter expert in Java.

• At least 8 years of experience with core Java.

• Experience with both monolithic applications and microservices.

• Proficient in containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.

• Knowledge of NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB.

• Experience working within an agile team alongside developers, testers, and a product owner.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and evolving shared platforms or infrastructure utilized by multiple teams.

• Proven track record of delivering cloud-native systems on AWS.

• Familiarity with scalability, reliability, security, and cost management principles.

• Strong foundation in software engineering fundamentals.

• Proven experience in contributing to and making significant architectural decisions.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.

• Strong initiative to enhance processes, tools, methodologies, and product quality.

• Nice to have: Experience with Azure or Google Cloud.

• Nice to have: Contributions to open-source projects or a robust GitHub portfolio.

• Tech stack includes Java, AWS, CloudFormation, Terraform, SQL Server, AWS RDS SQL Server, New Relic, AWS CloudWatch, Jira, Visual Studio, GitHub, Devin, and Claude Code.
