Staff Quality Engineer – Mobile

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Define and enhance the mobile testing pyramid for React Native.

• Determine the appropriateness of end-to-end testing and identify where logic should reside in more efficient testing layers.

• Establish standards for mobile release readiness.

• Collaborate with various product teams to enhance quality practices.

• Create testing strategies across products while considering trade-offs in coverage, reliability, and speed.

• Set performance benchmarks for essential systems.

• Develop AI agents to perform exploratory testing on changes and identify issues prior to production.

• Utilize AI tools for test creation, failure clustering, coverage insights, and suggesting fixes.

• Assess where AI can add value and where human oversight is necessary.

• Identify testing gaps and assist teams in building comprehensive test suites.

• Enhance test environments and data fixtures for better usability and reliability.

• Minimize test flakiness and expedite diagnosis through root-cause analysis.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to promote shift-left quality and clarify acceptance criteria.

• Leverage Datadog, Sentry, and Grafana to correlate production issues with test coverage and customer impact.

• Ensure teams establish and achieve Service Level Objectives.

• Conduct focused exploratory testing for high-risk releases.

• Work alongside software engineering, product, and design teams to establish the quality direction.

⛳️ Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Maestro or Detox.

• Over 5 years in quality engineering or test automation.

• Proven experience in maintaining stable automated test suites.

• Background in a scaled engineering environment with multiple teams.

• Practical coding experience in writing test code, frameworks, CI pipelines, and auxiliary scripts.

• Experience in API and contract testing, with insights on test data and environment strategy.

• Proven ability to set up and implement Service Level Objectives while driving measurable enhancements.

• Experience with AI-assisted test authoring, failure triage, or coverage analysis.

• Ability to coach other disciplines in quality assurance.

• Experience in shaping CI/CD pipelines for test reliability, including flakiness reduction, parallelization, artifact management, and runtime control.

• Proactive, low-ego, and clear in communication.

• Capable of working independently and driving improvements from start to finish.

• Evidence of 3–4 projects demonstrating measurable quality impact.

• Preferred experience testing React Native applications.

• Preferred background in mobile performance and reliability.

• Familiarity with React Native, TypeScript, Expo, EAS, GraphQL, Relay, Jest, React Testing Library, Maestro.

• Knowledge of Kotlin, PHP 8 (Symfony), AWS, Postgres, RabbitMQ, Docker, and Kubernetes.

• Proficient with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jira, Confluence, Datadog, Sentry, and Grafana.

• Must have the right to work in the UK.
