Staff Product Manager, OpenTelemetry

📋 Description

• Develop a vision and strategy for the OpenTelemetry product domain.

• Take ownership of the cross-product roadmap that guides the transition from uninstrumented workloads to effective telemetry in Grafana Cloud.

• Create cohesive experiences across SDK instrumentation, automatic instrumentation, and Collector-based deployments.

• Identify and resolve setup failures, abandonment issues, misconfigurations, and low-quality telemetry.

• Establish common experience principles, priorities, and success metrics across product and engineering teams.

• Utilize customer research, product analytics, and market insights to prioritize investments and assess outcomes.

• Collaborate with Grafana Cloud solution teams to move from telemetry ingestion to product activation.

• Formulate product narratives, positioning, launches, technical content, adoption initiatives, and campaigns alongside Product Marketing and go-to-market teams.

• Work in partnership with Engineering, Design, Documentation, Developer Relations, Product Marketing, and go-to-market teams.

• Represent Grafana Labs and its clientele in discussions within the OpenTelemetry ecosystem.

• Leverage AI tools to synthesize customer research, analyze product signals, explore workflows, prototype experiences, create positioning content, and test agent-led instrumentation journeys.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of Product Management experience in developer tools, observability, infrastructure, data platforms, or another technically intricate B2B product domain.

• Proven experience in leading strategy and execution across multiple engineering teams or product areas without having direct organizational authority.

• Solid understanding of OpenTelemetry, including SDK instrumentation, OTLP, Collector pipelines, telemetry context, and semantic conventions.

• Experience in utilizing or developing instrumentation systems, agents, telemetry collectors, configuration products, or related infrastructure.

• Knowledge of deploying and managing software across Kubernetes, virtual machines, and public cloud environments.

• Proven track record of transforming complex onboarding, configuration, and troubleshooting workflows into intuitive product experiences.

• History of leveraging customer research and product data to inform decisions, align stakeholders, and deliver quantifiable outcomes.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Bonus: familiarity with OpenTelemetry or open-source observability ecosystems.

• Bonus: experience with automatic instrumentation, eBPF, or runtime-based instrumentation.

• Bonus: direct experience as an SRE, platform engineer, developer, or observability practitioner.

• Bonus: experience in creating product-led onboarding, configuration validation, or telemetry health experiences at scale.
