Staff Product Manager, OpenTelemetry

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +6 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete journey to assist individuals and agents in instrumenting workloads and transmitting valuable OpenTelemetry data to Grafana Cloud.

• Develop the vision, strategy, and cross-product roadmap to transition from uninstrumented workloads to robust, valuable telemetry.

• Design experiences across SDK instrumentation, automatic instrumentation, and deployment based on Collector technology.

• Identify and address issues related to setup failures, abandonment, misconfigurations, and subpar telemetry quality.

• Establish shared experience principles, priorities, and success metrics among product and engineering teams.

• Leverage customer research, product data, and market insights to prioritize investments and evaluate onboarding, telemetry health, and activation results.

• Collaborate with Grafana Cloud solution teams to move from telemetry ingestion to impactful product activation.

• Articulate product narratives, differentiation strategies, launches, technical documentation, adoption initiatives, and marketing campaigns with Product Marketing and go-to-market teams.

• Work alongside Engineering, Design, Documentation, Developer Relations, Product Marketing, and go-to-market teams.

• Represent Grafana Labs and its customers in discussions within the OpenTelemetry ecosystem.

• Utilize AI tools for research synthesis, product-signal analysis, technical workflow exploration, prototyping, content positioning, and agent-led instrumentation paths.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in Product Management within developer tools, observability, infrastructure, data platforms, or another technically intricate B2B product domain.

• Proven ability to lead strategy and execution across multiple engineering teams or product domains without direct organizational authority.

• Comprehensive working knowledge of OpenTelemetry, covering SDK instrumentation, OTLP, Collector pipelines, telemetry context, and semantic conventions.

• Experience in utilizing or developing instrumentation systems, agents, telemetry collectors, configuration products, or related infrastructure.

• Familiarity with deploying and managing software across Kubernetes, virtual machines, and public cloud environments.

• Proven track record of converting complex onboarding, configuration, and troubleshooting workflows into clear product experiences.

• A history of employing customer research and product data to inform decisions, align stakeholders, and achieve measurable results.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Bonus: experience with OpenTelemetry or open-source observability ecosystems.

• Bonus: experience in automatic instrumentation, eBPF, or runtime-based instrumentation.

• Bonus: firsthand experience as an SRE, platform engineer, developer, or observability practitioner.

• Bonus: experience in developing product-led onboarding, configuration-validation, or telemetry-health experiences at scale.
