This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of the mobile technical strategy and architecture for the member application on both iOS and Android platforms.
• Oversee the hands-on development of the redesigned member app in alignment with the new brand, producing production code and establishing engineering patterns.
• Establish standards for app architecture, state management, offline data handling, performance optimization, accessibility, testing protocols, and code review processes.
• Create automated build, test, and release pipelines that include code signing, phased rollouts, feature flags, over-the-air updates, app store review, and weekly reporting on crash-free rates and performance metrics.
• Develop secure authentication and on-device PHI management strategies, encompassing biometrics, session management, secure storage, and HIPAA-compliant logging and analytics.
• Design the architecture for health and device data integrations utilizing Apple HealthKit, Android Health Connect, and APIs for third-party wearables.
• Mitigate risks associated with mobile architecture decisions, including the implementation of AI-enabled member features and AI-assisted app development.
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Product Manager, Senior UX Designer, clinical leaders, and engineering leaders.
• Leverage product analytics, experimentation, and member feedback to enhance engagement and retention.
• Mentor and partner with front-end and mobile engineers, conducting design reviews to support their development.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a similar field; an advanced degree is a plus.
• 12–15 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 7 years focused on building and launching native mobile applications and a proven track record of managing mobile architecture during significant scaling or growth.
• Extensive, hands-on knowledge in native iOS development: Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Swift concurrency, and Xcode.
• Extensive, hands-on knowledge in native Android development: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines and Flow, and Gradle.
• Successfully shipped and scaled at least one consumer B2C or B2B2C mobile health, wellness, or fitness application with a substantial active user base.
• Strong instincts regarding product onboarding, engagement, and retention strategies.
• Experience with integrating Apple HealthKit, Android Health Connect, Bluetooth LE, or APIs from third-party wearables.
• Profound expertise in mobile security and compliance, including HIPAA-compliant PHI management, OAuth 2.0/OIDC, biometrics, and encrypted local storage.
• Demonstrated discipline in mobile release processes utilizing CI/CD, automated testing, crash and performance monitoring, and app store release management.
• Proven ability in technical leadership, making architectural decisions across teams, mentoring senior engineers, and collaborating with Product, Design, and Clinical leaders.
• Preferred: Experience in production with React Native and TypeScript, including Fabric, TurboModules, and the development of native modules.
• Preferred: Experience leading a mobile app redevelopment or re-platforming project.
• Preferred: Experience in delivering AI- or LLM-powered features within a consumer mobile application.
• Preferred: Knowledge of FDA digital health regulations and App Store policies regarding health data.
