Staff Engineer, Software

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Establish technical direction, make decisions regarding build vs. buy, define architecture, and manage the technical roadmap in collaboration with product leadership.

• Transform vague challenges into actionable plans by scoping projects, identifying risks, breaking down initiatives, and fostering alignment across teams.

• Create and implement scalable pipelines, resilient services, and high-performance production systems.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot.

• Assess and incorporate AI/ML capabilities, including LLMs, embeddings, and classification models, into production environments.

• Lead cross-team technical projects, spearhead RFCs, conduct architectural reviews, and build consensus.

• Manage systems from requirements gathering through to release and operational deployment.

• Oversee SLOs/SLIs, resolve production issues, and enhance system reliability.

• Elevate engineering standards through code reviews, mentorship, technical documentation, and exemplary role modeling.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in Python, which serves as the primary backend language.

• Hands-on experience in at least two programming languages in production settings.

• Designed and managed production systems catering to real users at scale.

• Made significant architectural decisions and taken ownership of the results.

• Led technical initiatives across teams without formal authority.

• Strong instincts in system design, including understanding failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational costs.

• In-depth DevOps and operational experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructures (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD, and observability practices.

• Proven record of mentoring engineers and enhancing team standards.

• Conducted hands-on sessions in a real development environment as part of the technical interview process.

• Ability to navigate unfamiliar code, effectively utilize AI tools, decompose problems, make incremental progress, and communicate trade-offs.

• Experience leading large-scale migrations or platform rewrites.

• Practical AI/ML experience in production settings with LLMs, BERT, NLP pipelines, or document understanding systems.

• Experience with large-scale content processing, enrichment, or search systems.

• Familiarity with Java.

• Experience with GitOps, ArgoCD, or Infrastructure as Code methodologies.

• Active engagement in AI-assisted development practices (AIDLC).
