Staff Engineer – New Markets

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Singapore.

📋 Description

• Design and implement scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems (gRPC microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, vendor integrations)

• Enhance the core platform to support multi-region, multi-currency, and global regulatory contexts

• Take ownership of API quality, performance, and operational readiness for regional workloads

• Mentor engineers and elevate the technical quality through design reviews, collaboration, and engineering standards

• Collaborate with the recruiting team on regional hiring and interview processes

• Promote knowledge sharing and foster engineering culture throughout Alpaca

• Serve as a senior escalation point for incidents impacting regional stacks; enhance monitoring, alerting, and incident response

• Participate in on-call duties as needed based on the team's coverage model

• Work alongside Product, Compliance, and local stakeholders to address Singapore and regional requirements

• Collaborate across time zones with US and other regional engineering teams

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in backend engineering (Go or similar) and distributed systems at scale

• Staff-level impact: responsible for architecture, cross-team technical leadership, and mentoring

• Experience in financial services/fintech/brokerage: knowledge of trading lifecycle, settlements, and regulatory practices

• Strong communication skills in English; comfortable interacting with regional and global stakeholders
