This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.
• Take ownership of the technical strategy and roadmap for the integration of AI within Valsea's products, platform, and internal tools.
• Design and oversee the implementation of AI-driven functionalities into the Scala/Go/Kafka backend.
• Create capabilities for recommendations, personalization, support, fraud detection, risk management, agentic automation, and internal developer tools.
• Define the roadmap for agentic QA automation and AI-enhanced support and incident management.
• Incorporate AI tools into the software development lifecycle pipelines of GitHub/GitLab, covering code reviews, testing, and deployment checkpoints.
• Assess and integrate both self-hosted and API-based LLM/ML infrastructures.
• Set standards for the design, testing, monitoring, and rollback of AI features.
• Collaborate with Engineering leadership, Product, and Data teams to pinpoint AI opportunities and formulate delivery strategies.
• Provide mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers and managers.
• Conduct design reviews and elevate the technical standards for AI-assisted and AI-driven systems.
• Rapidly prototype, engage directly with the codebase, and resolve complex integration and performance challenges.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Extensive experience within the JVM/Scala ecosystem or a similarly robust background in a statically typed, distributed-systems-oriented language.
• Demonstrated capability at the Staff/Principal level, including the ability to set technical direction.
• Practical experience in deploying AI/ML-driven features into production at considerable scale.
• Familiarity with LLM integration, recommendation systems, applied ML, or agentic infrastructures.
• Profound knowledge of event-driven, distributed architectures, including Akka/Pekko and Kafka or equivalent technologies.
• Strong practical experience with distributed systems and container orchestration, such as Kubernetes and Docker.
• Experience in making build-vs-buy decisions and evaluating platform options considering cost, latency, data privacy, and vendor risk for AI systems.
• A product-oriented mindset focused on user impact and business results.
• Excellent communication skills suitable for both technical and leadership audiences.
• Ability to thrive in uncertain situations and help articulate the scope of the role.
• Professional-level proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
• Eligibility to reside/work in the EU; Valsea is unable to sponsor work visas outside of the EU.
