This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.
β’ Guide the architecture of real-time fraud decision-making services that evaluate transactions, logins, and account modifications within sub-second SLAs.
β’ Take ownership of the fraud rules engine, which includes rule version management, shadow/canary rollouts, and tools for analyst testing.
β’ Collaborate with Data Science to implement fraud-detection models through low-latency feature pipelines and serving infrastructure.
β’ Design Kafka event-driven pipelines for transaction, device, and behavioral signals, ensuring ordering, idempotency, and exactly-once guarantees where necessary.
β’ Create audit trails and layers of explainability for fraud decisions to assist regulators, card networks, and dispute resolution teams.
β’ Mentor engineers while promoting best practices in coding, system design, and incident response.
β’ Address high-scope, complex, and ambiguous technical challenges involving financial risk.
β’ Advocate for AI-assisted engineering methodologies utilizing code generation, automated refactoring, and technical documentation tools.
β’ Educational background focused on computer science, engineering, or software development fields.
β’ Proven success in hands-on backend engineering positions, with experience in Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and AWS.
β’ Experience in designing or managing real-time decision-making, scoring, or rules-engine systems with stringent latency requirements.
β’ Practical experience with fraud, risk, or trust & safety systems, such as transaction scoring, device fingerprinting, velocity/anomaly detection, or chargeback and dispute pipelines.
β’ Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and streaming data (Kafka), including ordering, idempotency, and exactly-once semantics.
β’ Familiarity with relational database systems, Object-Oriented Programming, and Domain-Driven Design; knowledge of microservice architecture is advantageous.
β’ Capability to translate compliance and audit requirements (e.g., BACEN, LGPD, PCI-DSS) into robust and explainable system designs.
β’ Experience in conducting code reviews, facilitating knowledge sharing, and encouraging collaborative development practices.
β’ Demonstrated ability to design complex distributed applications optimized for high performance, throughput, scalability, and reliability.
β’ Hands-on experience implementing AI frameworks in development initiatives.
β’ Experience with Python is a bonus.
β’ Strategic thinker with problem-solving skills, proactively addressing technical and process gaps before they become issues.
β’ High level of autonomy and accountability, capable of making technical decisions with minimal oversight, even under financial and regulatory pressures.
β’ Proven ability to mentor and nurture the development of junior and mid-level engineers.
β’ Strong communication skills to articulate fraud-engineering trade-offs to both technical colleagues and Risk/Compliance stakeholders.
β’ Comfortable working in ambiguous situations.
