Staff Data Systems Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete systems design for the MyFitnessPal product data stack.

• Develop, implement, and uphold the systems architecture roadmap for the product data stack.

• Act as the main contact point within Data Platform for the integrated data stack.

• Facilitate collaboration among Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Product Analytics, and backend engineering teams.

• Establish and uphold standards for data movement and consistency across the stack.

• Lead architectural reviews for new tool selections and evaluate vendors against the current stack.

• Identify duplication and work together on proof-of-value assessments.

• Assist in developing compliance architecture for user data, encompassing PII tagging and deletion/DSR policies.

• Manage access and licensing throughout the data stack.

• Maintain a comprehensive view of expenditures and access.

• Document and promote architecture decisions, standards, and ownership models across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8–12+ years of experience in systems design, architecture, or engineering positions.

• 3–5 years of experience in designing end-to-end data platform architecture at the architect/staff level.

• Proven experience in architecting integrations for a modern customer data stack, including product analytics, experimentation, attribution, and marketing activation tools.

• Familiarity with Snowflake or a similar cloud data platform, including performance optimization, cost management, and role-based access design.

• Experience in leading vendor assessments, consolidating tools, or migrating platforms.

• Background in implementing data governance, security, and compliance frameworks, including PII management and deletion/DSR workflows across various destinations.

• Experience in defining architecture standards that are adopted across teams or the organization and ensuring compliance through automation.

• Cost-aware management of infrastructure and vendor expenditures.

• Capability to influence architecture decisions across different teams and organizations.

• Experience deploying best practices for semantic and metrics layers using dbt or similar tools.

• Familiarity with data cataloging/governance tools and metadata stewardship initiatives.

• Experience in rapid experimentation environments.

• Advanced SQL skills and experience.

• Experience in consumer-facing subscription application settings.

• Proven ability to safely provide governed data for AI assistants and agents.
