Staff Backend Software Engineer – Loki

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, manage, and sustain critical systems, taking ownership of their reliability, performance, and availability.

• Shape the roadmap and personal career aspirations.

• Collaborate with the team to introduce new features and make iterative improvements based on outcomes.

• Lead projects from conception through to operations post-launch for customers.

• Contribute to open-source initiatives beyond the immediate team’s focus.

• Engage in on-call rotations and take responsibility for managed services.

• Provide mentorship and assistance to team members.

• Participate in design discussions and work collaboratively with the team.

• Acquire knowledge about the cloud product, customer requirements, and a large-scale distributed system codebase.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong proficiency in at least one programming language; experience with Go, Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar is desirable.

• Some experience in delivering projects from requirements gathering and brainstorming through to shipping to clients.

• Some background in developing software that operates in the Cloud or in systems engineering.

• Experience in writing clean, efficient, high-performance, and maintainable code.

• Capability to work autonomously in a fully remote environment.

• Strong communication skills.

• Experience with low-level coding for databases, storage systems, or query engines is advantageous.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes is a plus.

• Experience with Grafana and/or Prometheus in operational capacities is a plus.

• Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems, or a willingness to learn, is a plus.

• Knowledge of on-call responsibilities, operations/SRE tasks, or infrastructure as code is a bonus.
