Staff Backend Engineer, .NET

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Design scalable and distributed backend systems and microservices for a cloud-native Azure application.

• Develop clean, secure, and high-performance services and APIs using ASP.NET Core, C#, GraphQL, and Hot Chocolate.

• Take ownership of database architecture, which includes Azure SQL schema design, EF Core migrations, query optimization, indexing, and multi-tenant data isolation.

• Establish dependable patterns for messaging, distributed transactions, eventual consistency, idempotency, and handling failures across services.

• Drive technical decisions and set standards for scalability, quality, and long-term sustainability.

• Implement application and cloud security best practices across authentication, authorization, secret management, access controls, networking, and API infrastructure.

• Collaborate with Angular developers, product leaders, and engineering managers to convert business requirements into clear contracts and scalable solutions.

• Troubleshoot production issues across application, database, infrastructure, and network layers using observability and monitoring tools.

• Mentor engineers, promote best practices, and elevate the team's technical standards through design guidance and code reviews.

• Integrate AI-assisted development tools into professional engineering workflows.

• Influence the technology, architecture, and future trajectory of Nortal’s cloud-native platform for global enterprises and public sector organizations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 7 years of professional experience with .NET.

• Expert-level proficiency in ASP.NET Core and C#.

• At least 3 years of architectural leadership experience in designing scalable distributed systems and making technical decisions.

• Extensive knowledge of Azure SQL, including schema design, execution plans, indexing, transaction isolation, and query optimization.

• Expert proficiency in Entity Framework Core, encompassing complex queries, live-database migrations, performance enhancements, and raw SQL.

• Understanding of microservices architecture, event-driven messaging, distributed transactions, Sagas, eventual consistency, idempotency, compensating actions, and failure management.

• Knowledge of application security concepts, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, vulnerability mitigation, and secure handling of secrets and sensitive data.

• Capability to design secure multi-tenant systems using sharding, partitioning, row-level security, or similar isolation techniques.

• Experience in creating scalable, versioned, and backward-compatible APIs, including insights regarding data loading and N+1 challenges.

• Proven experience collaborating with Angular developers, product leaders, and engineering teams.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar.

• Ability to manage complex problems end-to-end, articulate technical trade-offs, mentor engineers, and maintain a methodical approach during production incidents.

• Advanced English proficiency is required for working with US clients.
