Staff Backend Engineer, Greenfield Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria.

📋 Description

• Take charge of greenfield development and oversee the architecture and technical vision for the V1 Trust Accounting product.

• Design and implement secure, scalable, and auditable backend services for the trust accounting subsystem.

• Set quality gates, develop robust testing methodologies, and ensure CI/CD integration.

• Promote engineering best practices in system design, observability, security, quality, resilience, and financial accuracy.

• Collaborate effectively with product, design, finance, and legal teams.

• Provide technical insights to enhance transparency and accountability.

• Mentor engineers through code reviews, architectural advice, and hands-on collaboration.

• Deliver a dependable Trust Accounting subsystem integrated into the Hostaway platform.

• Guarantee high-throughput, low-error, accurate, auditable, and compliant financial data.

• Scale the platform without requiring fundamental re-architecture.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering.

• A minimum of 2 years operating at a Staff Engineer level or equivalent.

• High proficiency in a backend programming language for production-grade services.

• Experience in building, shipping, and managing critical backend systems at scale.

• Knowledge of reliability, observability, and failure modes.

• Strong skills in system architecture and pragmatic trade-offs.

• Experience in promoting the adoption of platforms, patterns, or standards across teams.

• Comfortable working with AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and managing production services.

• Curiosity and adaptability to work with diverse codebases.

• Experience with accounting or ledger products is a significant advantage.

• Hands-on production experience with Golang is a plus.

• Must be physically located within the EMEA region.
