Special Education Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Deliver targeted course content in an online setting

• Provide instruction, support, and guidance in alignment with students' Individualized Education Programs

• Oversee the learning process while prioritizing individual student needs

• Collaborate with students and parents to enhance student learning

• Ensure the provision of special education and related services as outlined by the IEP team

• Communicate with parents and related service personnel about suitable therapies

• Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and necessary special education documentation

• Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP gatherings

• Implement accommodations and modifications using assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible texts

• Adjust Stride K12 lessons and assessments in accordance with IEPs

• Ensure student inclusion and success within the general education environment

• Collect data and work samples to evaluate IEP progress

• Document parent interactions and student interventions

• Analyze student data to recommend remediation and enrichment

• Provide both synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences

• Maintain the grade book and uphold academic integrity

• Make decisions about student placement and promotion while notifying administrators of performance concerns

• Prepare students for high-stakes standardized assessments

• Establish positive relationships with families and maintain timely communication with students and learning coaches/parents

• Assist learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual classroom troubleshooting issues

• Travel for in-person professional development, student testing, and/or school obligations as necessary

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid state Department of Education Special Education Teaching Certification is required

• If certification is obtained from another state, proof of New Mexico license application must be submitted within 7 days of the start date, and an approved New Mexico teaching license must be obtained within 90 days of the start date

• Bachelor's degree

• Active state teaching license

• Ability to pass the required background check

• Ability to collaborate effectively with other educators to interpret and generate numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data

• Ability to utilize student data to inform instructional decisions

• Open to regular coaching from administrators

• Ability to adapt to change to ensure optimal student outcomes

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint

• Capable of rapidly learning and adapting to new technologies and teaching platforms

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to maintain a distraction-free professional home office during work hours

• Ability to work independently, typically exceeding 40 hours per week

• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time

• Experience working with the specified age group is preferred

• Experience assisting adults and children with technology is preferred

• Experience in teaching online or within a brick-and-mortar setting is preferred

• Familiarity with an online learning platform is preferred
