This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +6 more states.
• Oversee the design and enhancement of controls for new products, system implementations, data migrations, model updates, and process transformations.
• Discover opportunities to enhance, streamline, or automate controls while ensuring adequate risk coverage.
• Analyze business processes, system interfaces, key reports, and data flows to pinpoint financial reporting risks and assist with SOX scoping decisions.
• Evaluate control concerns and deficiencies, determine root causes, and formulate effective remediation strategies in collaboration with management.
• Monitor remediation progress and conduct quality reviews of the remediation efforts.
• Work alongside external auditors on risk assessments and control design initiatives.
• Ensure that control deliverables align with PCAOB/Big-4 standards.
• Provide training to control owners regarding control design, evidence requirements, and best practices for remediation.
• Leverage data analytics, automation tools, and AI-driven solutions to enhance control monitoring, documentation quality, risk assessments, and the efficiency of the SOX program.
• Collaborate with business, finance, credit, technology, and risk teams to tackle control and governance challenges.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of experience in public accounting, SOX governance, internal controls, or related risk and compliance functions in the financial services sector.
• Experience in a public accounting or consulting environment is strongly preferred; Big 4 experience is ideal.
• Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting processes.
• Familiarity with loan and deposit lifecycles along with broader banking operations.
• Knowledge of controls pertaining to CECL, investments, loan valuations, and credit management.
• Insight into automated controls, system interfaces, report dependencies, and data flows within banking applications.
• Proven experience in evaluating control design, conducting root-cause analysis, and managing remediation efforts.
• Strong project management, stakeholder management, and presentation capabilities.
• Capability to assess emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, and evaluate their governance, control, and SOX implications.
• CPA/CIA certification is strongly preferred.
• Completion of required annual compliance training.
• A secure and private home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions.
• A reliable private internet connection, ideally through cable or fiber, not supplied through cellular data.
• Proficiency in accessing and interpreting computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations, as well as identifying customers.
• Ability to lift boxes and coins on a daily basis.
• Capability to drive a company vehicle to travel between locations.
• Physical ability to bend and reach.
• Willingness to travel outside the local area as necessary.
