South North Network SRE Expert – SME

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the north-south fabric that connects the AI cloud to global networks.

• Lead automation efforts to transform EVPN/BGP operations from reactive ticketing to proactive policy management.

• Manage EVPN-VxLAN data center fabrics to ensure multi-tenant network isolation and facilitate workload mobility.

• Design and operate multi-site DCI overlays and underlays to link four US data centers while providing consistent L2/L3 services.

• Oversee BGP, OSPF, ECMP load balancing, and VxLAN implementations across spine-leaf architectures.

• Administer IP transit, manage peering relationships, and maintain internet edge infrastructure.

• Ensure the WAN/IP backbone effectively connects US data centers to sites in APAC and Iceland.

• Handle Arista, Cisco, and Palo Alto switches, routers, and firewalls.

• Implement network automation solutions utilizing Ansible, Terraform, and Nautobot/NetBox for IP address management and data center infrastructure management.

• Monitor network health, capacity, and service level agreements across all locations.

• Develop network architecture documentation, standard configurations, and processes for change management.

• Represent routes, access control lists (ACLs), virtual routing and forwarding (VRFs), and peering sessions as code within the configuration management framework.

• Provide data on BGP flaps and DCI degradation to enhance the network stability predictor.

• Transform routine changes into workflows that can be executed by the remediation actuator during maintenance windows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center network engineering.

• Practical experience with EVPN-VxLAN deployment.

• In-depth expertise in BGP, including eBGP/iBGP, route policies, communities, and traffic engineering.

• Experience in designing and managing multi-site DCI utilizing EVPN multi-homing.

• Proficient with Arista EOS and/or Cisco NX-OS in spine-leaf data center settings.

• Experience with Palo Alto or Fortinet firewalls for perimeter and inter-tenant security measures.

• Hands-on expertise in IP transit provisioning and internet peering management.

• Familiarity with Ansible, Python/Netmiko, and Nautobot/NetBox.

• Strong understanding of quality of service (QoS), traffic engineering, and capacity planning for data center networks.

• An aptitude for AIOps, particularly in driving network automation from ticket-based operations to intent-driven policy implementation, or a well-defined approach to achieving this.

• A runbook-as-code mentality, ensuring that configurations, changes, and rollbacks can be executed by an agent.
