Software Engineering Team Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Deliver tactical, strategic, and technical leadership for software development teams within the DVSA Test Delivery domain.

• Collaborate with Architects, Developers, Business Systems Analysts, and Project Managers to ensure that products and services align with DVSA requirements and expectations.

• Maintain regular communication with the test driver vendor, Cyber Security, Software Project Management, Software Quality Assurance, and DVSA Program Management.

• Advocate for the team’s work to internal stakeholders and client stakeholders.

• Act as an escalation point for issues, technical decisions, and project prioritization.

• Represent team capacity and collaborate with the client to schedule prioritized projects.

• Understand vendor resource capacity and devise strategies to fulfill client needs.

• Coordinate project dependencies with other teams, including Cyber Security.

• Work alongside Project Managers to ensure successful project completion.

• Provide leadership regarding agile development processes and emerging engineering best practices.

• Collaborate with vendor leadership on process initiatives aimed at enhancing team efficiency and effectiveness.

• Participate in the prioritization of Cyber Security and client feature backlogs.

• Offer one-on-one coaching and guidance to team members.

• Set objectives and provide constructive feedback for team member performance evaluations.

• Recruit and retain high-performing staff possessing the necessary skills for the team.

• Understand and manage technologies utilized in application suites.

• Partner with architects and directors on strategic direction and drive it to fruition.

• Identify areas for technical improvement and develop action plans to address them.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related application field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 8 years of experience in software development with a proven track record of leading and managing teams to achieve high performance.

• At least 5 years of technical leadership experience with relevant expertise in Java-based applications.

• Minimum of 3-5 years in a direct management role or a similar background that demonstrates success in this position.

• Capability to navigate through ambiguity and make difficult decisions.

• Adaptive leadership skills to tackle challenges arising from evolving business needs.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities.

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Proven success in motivating and coaching team members for optimal results.

• Previous experience serving as a technical liaison between business and client.
