Software Engineering Specialist – Staff Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Define and spearhead impactful architectural choices, taking into account scale, performance, resilience, and sustainability.

• Collaborate across teams to ensure consistency in technical standards.

• Analyze intricate technical challenges, pinpoint root causes, and lead structured problem-solving efforts.

• Suggest technical enhancements aimed at improving the quality, reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of systems.

• Address critical incidents, aiding in system diagnosis, mitigation, resolution, and evolution.

• Shape technology strategy in collaboration with leadership.

• Elevate technical standards through mentoring and the promotion of best practices.

• Establish and refine engineering standards concerning architecture, quality, observability, and security.

• Engage with SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs.

• Encourage a culture that values data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

• Support innovation, experimentation, and the strategic application of AI.

• Develop solutions for complex technical challenges as the principal technical authority.

• Align architectural decisions with the company's product goals and OKRs.

• Take part in cross-functional technical communities, Staff Engineer forums, RFCs, and ADRs.

• Bridge teams and business units, avoiding silos and redundant efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in backend development.

• Extensive background in microservices architecture and distributed systems.

• Familiarity with messaging and event-driven systems.

• Proficient in APIs such as REST, GraphQL, or RPC.

• Experience with high-scale production environments.

• Understanding of software testing and quality assurance practices.

• Knowledge of system observability and monitoring techniques.

• Awareness of API security protocols.

• Experience with cloud services like AWS, GCP, Azure, or equivalent.

• Familiarity with CI/CD processes.

• Capability to influence both technical and business decisions.

• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

• Skill in determining tasks suitable for AI delegation versus those requiring human insight.

• Ability to define objectives and context prior to crafting prompts.

• Design contracts and interfaces before employing AI for code generation.

• Specify what AI should not generate in advance.

• Critically assess AI outputs to ensure quality and alignment.

• Nice to have: experience with Node.js and TypeScript, NestJS, Kafka, and MongoDB; knowledge of functional programming languages and Grafana; experience in fraud prevention and/or risk management.
