Software Engineering Manager, .Net

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of software engineers tasked with the maintenance, modernization, and continuous improvement of critical administrative systems supporting Allstate Dealer Services.

• Provide strategic leadership across software delivery, technology strategy, application operations, and talent development.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, Engineering Leaders, and business stakeholders to implement scalable solutions and uphold operational excellence.

• Mentor and coach software engineering teams by offering performance feedback, career guidance, and opportunities for growth.

• Engage in product discovery, portfolio planning, strategic planning, retrospectives, inception, iteration planning, backlog refinement, and prioritization.

• Develop and refine architecture, design, and technical roadmaps in conjunction with architects and technical leaders.

• Supervise Agile delivery teams, addressing complex technical challenges and delivery obstacles.

• Advocate for automated testing, code quality standards, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and DevOps methodologies.

• Ensure the security, reliability, scalability, and effective support of production applications.

• Align technological investments with strategic business goals across product, engineering, architecture, security, and business teams.

• Foster collaboration across functions and products to ensure consistency, reusability, and alignment of the portfolio.

• Assist in workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and talent management.

• Establish and track engineering metrics concerning delivery, quality, reliability, and team well-being.

• Advise stakeholders on software engineering methodologies, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and organizational effectiveness.

• Manage, mentor, develop, and assess software engineering talent; oversee hiring, performance management, and succession planning.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including leading engineering teams in the delivery of enterprise-scale applications and services.

• Proven experience managing software engineers within Agile development frameworks.

• Strong knowledge of modern software architecture, microservices, distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native applications, and DevOps practices.

• Experience in delivering solutions utilizing Java, Spring Boot, and associated enterprise technologies.

• Proficient in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and engineering delivery processes.

• Experience in supporting applications in production environments, with an emphasis on reliability, observability, and operational excellence.

• Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.

• Experience in leading technical planning, estimation, prioritization, and execution activities.

• Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, coach, and retain engineering talent.

• Experience collaborating closely with Product Management and business stakeholders to deliver customer-centric solutions.

• Preferred: Experience leading teams in the development of applications using C#, .NET, .NET Core, and contemporary API architectures.

• Preferred: Experience in managing production support and operations for mission-critical systems.

• Preferred: Experience in leading modernization initiatives involving cloud platforms, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and DevOps practices.

• Preferred: Experience in building and leading Agile software engineering teams.

• Preferred: Strong understanding of CI/CD, observability, application security, and best practices in enterprise software development.

• Preferred: Proven track record of managing engineers while driving both delivery execution and organizational change.

• Preferred: Experience partnering with business stakeholders in highly operational or transaction-driven contexts.

• Must undergo a background investigation.
