Director of Software Engineering – Federal Health

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture a diverse engineering organization across platform development, program building, production support, and applied AI.

• Recruit, mentor, evaluate performance, and foster career growth for team leads and individual contributors.

• Take ownership of engineering execution and delivery results for the platform portfolio.

• Oversee velocity, quality, technical debt, roadmap initiatives, and program commitments.

• Enhance and uphold SDLC, code review, testing, release management, secure development, and documentation standards.

• Manage capacity and allocation models across platform, program, and production support tasks.

• Collaborate with Technical Delivery leadership on resource distribution.

• Work alongside Technical Product on roadmap intake, sequencing, and prioritization.

• Partner with the Lead Software Architect and Chief Architect on platform design, governance of standards, and technical feasibility.

• Promote continuous improvement in engineering throughput and predictability through delivery metrics.

• Advocate for configuration over customization in platform design.

• Collaborate with DevSecOps, Infrastructure, and Security on ATO, FISMA, and compliance responsibilities.

• Provide engineering insights to support capture and pursuit initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering.

• 5+ years of experience in leading engineering teams.

• A minimum of 2 years supervising managers or team leads.

• Proven experience leading engineering organizations of 15 or more across multiple concurrent workstreams.

• Hands-on experience in modern cloud-native application development.

• Capability to review designs and make architectural trade-offs.

• Experience in a regulated environment with established security and compliance requirements.

• Familiarity with Agile or SAFe delivery methodologies.

• Proficiency with Atlassian Jira and Confluence or similar tools.

• Demonstrated history of hiring, developing, and retaining exceptional engineers.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience is acceptable.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust government clearance.

• Must have physically resided in the United States for a cumulative total of at least three of the past five years.

• Preferred: Experience in federal health programs, including CMS, VA, or DHA.

• Preferred: Understanding of federal compliance frameworks, such as FISMA, IL4+, and CMMC.

• Preferred: Experience with multi-tenant SaaS or configurable platform architecture.

• Preferred: Experience in applied AI/ML within enterprise architectures.

• Preferred: Familiarity with healthcare data standards, including HL7 FHIR, X12, ICD-10, and CPT.
