Software Engineering Intern – Security

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Integrate security tools and checks into CI/CD pipelines.

• Develop and enhance security tools using scripts and automation, predominantly in Python.

• Leverage AI technology to assist with daily security operations.

• Perform offensive testing to identify product vulnerabilities and create proofs of concept.

• Assess security issues and resolve straightforward problems, like SCA version updates.

• Collaborate with product engineers, DevOps teams, and Fraud specialists.

• Acquire practical experience in application security and DevSecOps throughout the software lifecycle.

• Report directly to the Staff Software Engineer – Security.

• Take charge of significant security projects that will be delivered during the internship.

• Work with K8s-based microservices, Python FastAPI backends, TypeScript React front ends, AWS infrastructure, and related data and observability technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a degree program for Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

• A genuine passion for application and infrastructure security.

• Understanding of the OWASP Top 10 and typical classes of vulnerabilities.

• Some practical experience in identifying vulnerabilities through CTFs, labs, or academic coursework.

• Familiarity with web technologies and networking principles, including HTTP, REST APIs, TLS, and DNS.

• Strong programming skills; Python is preferred.

• A keen desire to learn and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, DevOps, and other departments.

• Relevant security certifications are advantageous, such as Security+, eJPT, or PJPT.

• Previous internship experience in security or software engineering is a plus.

• Success in bug bounty programs, CTF competitions, or similar initiatives is a bonus.

• Interest in utilizing AI/LLMs for security or engineering tasks is a bonus.

• Experience with AWS or Kubernetes/cloud security is a plus.

• Exposure to mobile development or mobile security is a bonus.

• Independent projects showcased on GitHub are a plus.

• Candidates must reside in Canada.

• Minimum 6-hour overlap with the Eastern Time Zone.

• Availability to commit to a 40-hour work week.

• Availability during core working hours from 9/10 am to 5/6 pm EST, Monday to Friday, except for pre-approved time off.
