Software Engineer – Research Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and sustain robust, scalable data schemas and storage solutions that are optimized for high-performance AI workloads.

• Benchmark, profile, enhance, and expand distributed storage utilizing chunking, compression, parallelization, and tailored solutions.

• Develop and uphold high-quality, production-ready data systems in accordance with clean code principles and engineering best practices.

• Create clean, typed, and well-documented APIs for researchers, engineers, and AI agents.

• Collaborate with researchers and product engineers to identify needs, align priorities, and manage projects from inception to completion.

• Monitor, profile, and optimize database queries, storage read/write paths, pipeline bottlenecks, and costs associated with cloud infrastructure.

• Implement data validation, testing, versioning, and access control in conjunction with platform engineers.

• Work alongside multidisciplinary researchers and engineers on software development and productization initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, production-level proficiency in Python.

• Strong practical experience with contemporary Python data tools and frameworks, including Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, object storage abstractions, and FastAPI or similar frameworks.

• Mastery in relational database management systems such as PostgreSQL, covering schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization.

• Experience in designing API surfaces.

• Familiarity with protocols for programmatic and agent access, such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

• A steadfast belief that data infrastructure is a product, coupled with a commitment to usability for non-technical stakeholders.

• Team-oriented, independent, inquisitive, detail-focused, and adaptable mindset.
