Software Engineer, Repositories

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and enhance customer-oriented registries, APIs, and artifact-serving platforms.

• Execute projects and features from technical design through testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

• Create and manage backend services in Go that support Libraries and future containers, images, APKs, and various artifact types.

• Contribute to the scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and load testing of production systems.

• Engage in design discussions regarding service boundaries, APIs, data flows, and operational patterns.

• Collaborate with engineers and product partners throughout Chainguard.

• Conduct code reviews, pose questions, share knowledge, and foster a supportive engineering culture.

• Investigate and troubleshoot production issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of software development experience, including some work on backend or infrastructure systems.

• Proficiency in Go, or robust programming experience in another language with the capability to quickly learn Go.

• Experience in contributing to software projects from implementation through testing and release.

• A keen interest in developing customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, developer platforms, or other backend systems.

• A solid understanding of software engineering principles, including testing, code reviews, debugging, and version control.

• Experience with deploying or managing services in production, or a strong desire to cultivate those skills.

• A systems-oriented mindset accompanied by curiosity.

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative demeanor, including the ability to seek help, accept feedback, and work effectively in a remote setting.

• Over 5 years of experience in building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems. (Preferred.)

• Extensive Go experience, or significant backend systems expertise with the ability to quickly become proficient in Go. (Preferred.)

• Experience taking ownership of backend or infrastructure projects from design to production operation. (Preferred.)

• Familiarity with building or managing customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, developer platforms, or other high-scale serving systems. (Preferred.)

• Strong judgment regarding reliability, observability, performance, security, and operational trade-offs. (Preferred.)

• Experience in deploying and managing services in production, including knowledge of cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform. (Preferred.)
