This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop and enhance customer-facing registries, APIs, and artifact-serving systems.
• Execute projects and features from the technical design phase through testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Create and manage backend services in Go that serve Libraries and support future containers, images, APKs, and other types of artifacts.
• Contribute to the scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and load testing of production systems.
• Engage in design discussions regarding service boundaries, APIs, data flows, and operational patterns.
• Work collaboratively with engineers and product partners throughout Chainguard.
• Review code, pose questions, share insights, and support the engineering team.
• Investigate and resolve issues in production environments.
• A minimum of 2 years of software development experience, including some background in backend or infrastructure systems.
• Proficiency in Go, or solid programming experience in another language with a quick adaptability to learning Go.
• Experience in contributing to software projects from implementation through testing and final release.
• A keen interest in constructing customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, developer platforms, or similar backend systems.
• Understanding of software engineering principles, including testing, code reviews, debugging, and version control.
• Familiarity with deploying or operating services in production, or a strong desire to develop these skills.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure or infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform is advantageous but not mandatory.
• A systems-oriented mindset combined with curiosity.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach, including the ability to seek assistance, integrate feedback, and work effectively in a remote setting.

• Preferred: 5+ years of experience in building and managing production backend or infrastructure systems.
• Preferred: Advanced expertise in Go or extensive experience in backend systems.

• Preferred: Experience in building or managing customer-facing infrastructure or high-scale serving systems.
• Preferred: Strong judgment regarding reliability, observability, performance, security, and operational trade-offs.
• Preferred: Experience in deploying and managing production services, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
