Software Engineer, Networking – Dataplane

📋 Description

• Contribute to the essential connectivity features of Tailscale's core client.

• Enhance connectivity between clients, subnet routers, exit nodes, and customer network integrations.

• Offer architectural insights and address escalated customer network challenges.

• Collaborate with product management and engineering to create scalable and maintainable network solutions.

• Design, develop, test, and document client-side networking software.

• Integrate industry-standard network protocols with Tailscale’s designs and frameworks.

• Implement security-focused architecture and coding practices.

• Improve software performance, reliability, and scalability across various platforms and hardware.

• Assist customer success teams with critical network escalations.

• Engage with the open-source community and contribute to pertinent projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with networking software and troubleshooting network issues.

• Thorough understanding of network engineering, encompassing routing, VPNs, IP address management, and NAT traversal.

• Proficiency in Go or another low-level programming language such as C, C++, or Rust.

• Strong grasp of concurrent programming and performance optimization techniques.

• Experience working with large-scale distributed systems is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with low-level operating system network stacks is highly desirable.

• Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback and work independently.

• Adaptability to the dynamic environment of a startup.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
