Software Engineer, Networking – Dataplane

📋 Description

• Contribute to Tailscale's essential client connectivity features

• Enhance connectivity solutions among clients, subnet routers, exit nodes, and integrations with customer network infrastructure

• Offer architectural insights and address escalated network issues for customers

• Collaborate with product management and internal engineering to create scalable and maintainable integrated network solutions

• Design, build, test, and document networking software for client-side applications

• Advance product features by utilizing established industry network protocols alongside Tailscale-specific designs and frameworks

• Implement security-focused architecture and coding practices within networking modules

• Assess and optimize software performance, reliability, and scalability across various technical platforms and hardware

• Provide expert consultation and assist customer success teams with critical network escalations

• Engage with the open-source community and contribute to relevant projects

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in networking software and troubleshooting networking issues

• In-depth understanding of network engineering, which includes routing, VPNs, IP address management, and NAT traversal

• Proficiency in Go or other low-level programming languages such as C/C++ or Rust

• Strong grasp of concurrent programming and performance optimization techniques

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems is highly advantageous

• Familiarity with low-level OS network stacks is highly desirable

• Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback and work autonomously

• Adaptability to the dynamic environment of a startup

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
