Software Engineer, Libraries Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Direct the design and execution of fundamental components of the Libraries Platform, encompassing services, pipelines, and package index that facilitate secure, reproducible build, test, and distribution workflows for libraries across various ecosystems (Java, JavaScript, Python/AI/ML).

• Create and maintain automation for artifact generation, updates, and validation, which includes vulnerability scanning, remediation workflows, SBOM and provenance generation, along with policy enforcement throughout our library catalog.

• Advance towards innovative patch generation. Develop and validate automation that produces security fixes — including AI-assisted patching — rather than solely applying upstream patches, ensuring the necessary testing and verification to trust the outcomes.

• Establish and manage shared platform services such as package indexes, registry mirrors, metadata services, and orchestration tools that cater to both external customers and internal ecosystem teams.

• Create internal developer tools and CLIs (typically in Go) that enhance the processes of building, testing, and deploying libraries at scale, integrating with build systems and CI/CD across multiple ecosystems.

• Promote reliability, scalability, and observability for the Libraries platform: define SLOs, establish monitoring and alerting, and lead incident response along with post-incident enhancements.

• Address intricate dependency and build challenges in production settings, tackling issues ranging from toolchain and compiler complications to CI/CD inconsistencies and registry/package index anomalies.

• Collaborate closely with ecosystem teams (Java, JavaScript, Python/AI/ML), Platform, Delivery, Sustaining, and Security to ensure the platform fulfills reliability, security, and product criteria.

• Guide and assist other engineers through design reviews, documentation, and hands-on debugging, fostering a “code culture” in how we develop and manage our libraries platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in designing, building, and managing infrastructure for language ecosystems or developer platforms, such as build systems, package registries, or CI/CD for widely utilized libraries or services.

• Strong expertise in Go (Golang) or a readiness to quickly acquire proficiency.

• Proven experience in building and owning developer tools and automation (plugins, CLIs, code generators, or custom pipelines) that enhance how engineers build and deliver software at scale.

• Solid background in CI/CD, cloud-native infrastructure, and IaC: containers (Docker/OCI, Kubernetes), public cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure), and tools like Terraform and GitHub Actions/Argo/Tekton (or their equivalents).

• Demonstrated capability to troubleshoot and resolve complex toolchain, compiler, packaging, and infrastructure failures in production, driving those issues to root cause and sustainable solutions.

• Comfortable engaging in SRE / platform / DevOps responsibilities, including reliability, observability, and performance optimization for essential services and pipelines.

• Excellent communication skills in a remote, distributed environment, emphasizing documentation, clarity, and collaboration across product, infrastructure, and security teams.

• An ownership mindset: you set technical direction, take responsibility for critical outcomes, and are at ease in an early, high-impact area where engineers help shape both the roadmap and the culture.
