Software Engineer, Libraries Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and execution of essential components of the Libraries Platform, including services, pipelines, and package index that facilitate secure, reproducible build, test, and distribution workflows for libraries across various ecosystems (Java, JavaScript, Python/AI/ML).

• Design and uphold automation processes for artifact creation, updates, and verification, which includes vulnerability scanning, remediation workflows, SBOM and provenance generation, and policy enforcement across our library catalog.

• Innovate towards new patch generation. Develop and validate automation that produces security fixes — including AI-assisted patching — rather than solely relying on upstream patches, ensuring the necessary testing and verification for trust in the results.

• Construct and manage shared platform services like package indexes, registry mirrors, metadata services, and orchestration tools that support both external customers and internal ecosystem teams.

• Create internal developer tools and CLIs (often utilizing Go) that enhance the process of building, testing, and shipping libraries at scale, including integration with build systems and CI/CD across multiple ecosystems.

• Enhance reliability, scalability, and observability for the Libraries platform: establish SLOs, develop monitoring and alerting systems, and lead incident response along with post-incident improvements.

• Address intricate dependency and build challenges in production environments, ranging from toolchain and compiler issues to CI/CD inconsistencies and registry/package index edge cases.

• Collaborate closely with ecosystem teams (Java, JavaScript, Python/AI/ML), Platform, Delivery, Sustaining, and Security to ensure the platform fulfills reliability, security, and product standards.

• Mentor and assist fellow engineers through design reviews, documentation, and hands-on debugging, instilling a "code culture" in how we develop and manage our libraries platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in designing, building, and managing infrastructure for language ecosystems or developer platforms, such as build systems, package registries, or CI/CD for widely utilized libraries or services.

• Strong expertise in Go (Golang) or a strong willingness to learn quickly.

• Demonstrated success in developing and managing developer tooling and automation (plugins, CLIs, code generators, or custom pipelines) that enhance the software development and shipping process at scale.

• Solid foundation in CI/CD, cloud-native infrastructure, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC): containers (Docker/OCI, Kubernetes), public cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure), and tools like Terraform and GitHub Actions/Argo/Tekton (or equivalents).

• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex toolchain, compiler, packaging, and infrastructure failures in production, and to drive those challenges to root cause and long-lasting solutions.

• Comfortable working across SRE / platform / DevOps responsibilities, including reliability, observability, and performance optimization for critical services and pipelines.

• Excellent communication skills in a remote, distributed setting, with a focus on documentation, clarity, and collaboration among product, infrastructure, and security teams.
