Software Engineer II, Cloud Applications

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, test, and deliver well-defined features and enhancements for Temporal Cloud.

• Develop and enhance services that facilitate namespace provisioning, configuration, scalability, and reliability.

• Create data pipelines that process high-volume usage and operational data across multiple tenants.

• Make engineering decisions that balance data freshness, query costs, tenant isolation, reliability, and operational complexity.

• Enhance service operability through testing, instrumentation, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and comprehensive documentation.

• Engage in code reviews, design discussions, incident responses, and production debugging.

• Work collaboratively with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to understand requirements and safely deliver scoped projects.

• Enhance the developer and customer experience through automation, improved tooling, and incremental product enhancements.

• Contribute to the scalability, reliability, and overall developer experience of Temporal Cloud's Namespaces, Audit Logs, and Export systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and managing production backend systems within a cloud environment.

• Proficiency in Go or another relevant backend or systems programming language.

• Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, basics of concurrency, testing, and debugging.

• Practical understanding of distributed systems concepts such as reliability, fault tolerance, consistency, scaling, and failure management.

• Experience with databases, data pipelines, messaging systems, or object storage solutions.

• Capability to take a defined problem, decompose it into smaller tasks, implement a comprehensive solution, and incorporate feedback.

• Familiarity with logging, metrics, tracing, deployment processes, and production troubleshooting.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions clearly.

• Commitment to ensuring correctness and maintainability in all work.

• 3+ years of relevant work experience (preferred).

• Experience with Go (preferred).

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redshift, Kinesis, or Firehose (preferred).

• Experience with S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, or other object storage systems (preferred).

• Knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure (preferred).

• Experience with on-call rotations, incident investigation, or enhancing production observability (preferred).

• Familiarity with Temporal concepts or a strong interest in learning the platform (preferred).
