This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malta.
• Design and sustain a high-performance backend platform utilizing PHP and Laravel.
• Create scalable solutions through the use of layered directory structures.
• Oversee the application surface and ensure smooth integration across an extensive service layer.
• Implement secure and efficient routing by employing middleware-protected routes and FormRequests for data validation.
• Maintain high code quality through thorough code reviews and tools such as PHP-CS-Fixer and Pint.
• Develop and uphold robust test suites using PHPUnit, Mockery, and Faker.
• Collaborate with frontend development (Next.js/React), product, and design teams to deliver comprehensive features.
• Manage deployments and CI/CD pipelines within Bitbucket and AWS environments.
• Enhance database performance and schema design in PostgreSQL/MySQL.
• Diagnose and monitor applications using Telescope and Collision to ensure 24/7 reliability.
• Take ownership of core backend features and create high-performance, scalable systems using Laravel and PHP.
• Extensive experience with modern Laravel (11.x) and PHP 8.2 or higher.
• Strong grasp of layered architecture, Repository patterns, and Service Providers.
• Proficiency in PHPUnit and TDD practices, including tools like Mockery and Sail.
• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL/MySQL, focusing on query optimization and indexing strategies.
• Familiarity with the contemporary PHP ecosystem (Pint, PHP-CS-Fixer, Telescope).
• Comprehensive experience with Bitbucket workflows and deploying applications to AWS.
• Ability to navigate and contribute to a large application surface with intricate dependencies.
• Direct experience in integrating AI-driven features or LLM APIs into backend services.
• Knowledge of Docker-based development environments (Laravel Sail).
• Background in iGaming, Sportsbook, or Fintech platforms (preferred/bonus).
• Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka or RabbitMQ (preferred/bonus).
• Experience with observability tools and performance monitoring in high-traffic environments (preferred/bonus).
• Familiarity with Golang (preferred/bonus).
