Software Engineer, Application Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create application-level components that empower Airbnb engineers and AI agents to deliver product functionality efficiently and securely.

• Design and develop distributed systems and production services.

• Implement essential features, devise rollout and testing strategies, and engage in on-call rotations.

• Maintain and troubleshoot existing systems, which includes resolving bugs, enhancing test coverage, optimizing performance, ensuring production quality, and improving observability.

• Conduct code reviews and establish dashboards for system observability.

• Offer technical assistance to engineers and developers by addressing inquiries, debugging code, and solving issues.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to comprehend, design, develop, and deploy feature requests.

• Keep abreast of emerging technologies, including AI, and identify potential technologies for future systems.

• Work in conjunction with Airbnb engineers, external teams, partners, and stakeholders on company-wide projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, ideally in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• Over 3 years of industry experience.

• Experience with distributed systems and analyzing trade-offs.

• Expertise in Java, micro-services, observability systems, and debugging distributed and multi-threaded systems.

• An AI-first engineering mindset utilizing LLM-powered agents to create and refine code.

• Strong technical communication skills, including writing design documents, presenting in design reviews, and creating effective post-mortems.

• Proactive, clear communication and collaboration through code reviews and architectural discussions.

• A desire to foster a positive team culture and promote inclusivity.

• Enthusiasm for joining a significant infrastructure team.
